Compaq widens the gap in worldwide PC server and super server shipments in 2Q95; Outpaces IBM, Hewlett Packard and Digital.

 a report recently released by International Data Corporation (IDC). Based on IDC's 2Q95 research, Compaq currently holds nearly three times the PC server and super server market share of its nearest competitor.

IDC's Commercial Systems and Servers report shows that Compaq attained 41 percent market share in 2Q95, substantially outpacing its nearest competitor, IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) , which holds 14 percent of the market. Moreover, Compaq holds over three times the PC server and super server market share of HP and nearly seven times the market share of Digital. In addition, the IDC report shows that while Compaq increased its market share from 1Q95 to 2Q95, IBM and HP lost worldwide server market share in the same time frame. In fact, Compaq has held the number one position in worldwide PC server and super server shipments since 1993.
