), the world's leading server vendor, and Prologic Corporation, the leading provider of client/server solutions for the banking industry, today announced worldwide that they have entered into a marketing agreement to promote joint solutions based on Compaq ProLiant servers and Ovation, the Windows NT-based enterprise-banking application from Prologic. The partnership will deliver integrated high-performance, high-availability, standards-based hardware and software systems for banking customers.

"To retain and win new customers in a highly competitive market, financial institutions require flexible, scalable and fault-tolerant information systems," said Ronnie Ward, Vice President and General Manager, Enterprise Solutions Division, Compaq Computer Corporation. "The combination of Prologic's Ovation software and Compaq ProLiant servers will allow banking customers to rapidly deploy standards-based, high-availability solutions for the creation and delivery of new, customer-management functionality targeted to specific customer needs."

With Ovation, financial institutions have the ability to identify unique customer and product relationships, to identify the contribution to profit at the customer level, and to handle relationship-driven pricing.

"The combination of Ovation and Compaq servers is a can't-miss package for financial institutions," said Robert Wilband, President and Chief Executive Officer of Prologic Corporation. "Banks of all sizes - from $20 billion in assets down to $100 million in assets - can now purchase specialized hardware and software that are powerful and flexible enough for all their computing requirements."

Recent clustering tests by Prologic and Compaq show that when using Microsoft Cluster Server Clustering software from Microsoft for Windows NT/2000. It provides rudimentary load balancing and two-node failover, which allows a second server to take over if the first one fails. Cluster Server was formerly code named Wolfpack. , the Ovation server will fail over from one node in the cluster to the other in the case of hardware failure. The success of testing a fail-over cluster scenario provides a foundation to further optimize Ovation to take advantage of the high availability Also called "RAS" (reliability, availability, serviceability) or "fault resilient," it refers to a multiprocessing system that can quickly recover from a failure. There may be a minute or two of downtime while one system switches over to another, but processing will continue.  and scalability possible with Compaq hardware running Microsoft cluster software.

The benchmark environment simulated a bank with approximately 2,000 branches, 10,000 employee workstations, 2,500 ATMs, eight million customers, and more than nine million accounts. This benchmark suggests that financial institutions can implement additional software and hardware to accommodate their growth as required and more cost-effectively than legacy customers who can't leverage their investment spending and must revisit their hardware and software systems.

The Compaq Prologic Partnership

Under terms of the agreement, Compaq and Prologic will conduct joint marketing activities worldwide, including speaking engagements, participation at financial industry trade shows and conferences, and co-hosting of executive retail-banking seminars. The companies will also work together to benchmark and certify a range of scalable and high-availability software and hardware solutions, including Compaq fibre channel-based products.
