Web-Based OpenVMS Product Enhancements Support Compaq's NonStop eBusiness

Underscoring Compaq's commitment to enable OpenVMS users to take advantage of Internet-based opportunities, Compaq announced: Compaq Office Server for OpenVMS V5.0; Compaq Office Server Web Interface V6.0; Apache Web Server See Apache. ; DECforms Web Connector V2.0; DECforms for OpenVMS V3.1; Netscape FastTrack for OpenVMS Alpha V3.01; and Java Development Kit (language, compiler) Java Development Kit - (JDK) A free Sun Microsystems product which provides the environment required for programming in Java. OpenVMS Application Development Products Provide Choice

As part of today's announcement, Compaq outlined its application development strategy for OpenVMS. The strategy provides OpenVMS application developers a choice of development styles. Choices include developing applications on OpenVMS and deploying on OpenVMS, or developing applications on Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  and deploying on Windows NT and/or OpenVMS. In support of this flexible approach to styles of OpenVMS application development, Compaq today unveiled an enhanced lineup of compilers, tools, and middleware which offer developers a choice of robust languages to meet their needs. These new application development product enhancements are: Compaq Fortran V Fortran V - Preliminary work on adding character handling to Fortran by IBM ca. 1962. New OpenVMS AlphaStation XP900 Delivers High Performance

Compaq is also announcing the AlphaStation XP900 for OpenVMS. The new AlphaStation XP900 is the first new generation 21264 (EV6) high performance workstation, and is primarily targeted at system managers and OpenVMS application developers. Compaq also plans to support Tru64 UNIX The 64-bit Unix operating system for HP's AlphaServers. Formerly Digital Unix when Alpha was a product family from Digital Equipment Corporation, it was renamed Tru64 Unix in 1999 by Compaq (HP acquired Compaq in 2002). , Linux and Windows NT on the AlphaStation XP900 - details to be released later this summer.

Technology investments are focused on new platform support, and Windows NT and Web Integration. For new platform support, Compaq will enhance OpenVMS by focusing investments on ultra-high availability, including continued enhancements of its Galaxy software architecture.
