) today took a major step in its drive to reassert its leadership in the portable PC marketplace, announcing that Michael J. Winkler Winkler may refer to:

Winkler will join Compaq in November, and until that time Hugh Barnes, who currently heads the Portables Division, will continue in that role. In November, Barnes who moved to the Portables Division last year after heading up Compaq's Peripherals Division, will assume new responsibilities in the area of corporate technology.
