Compaq Selects Documentum To Facilitate Corporate-Wide SAP Implementation; Documentum's EDMS Becomes Enterprise Repository in Re-Engineering Initiative.

PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 15, 1996-- Documentum(TM) Inc. (NASDAQ: DCTM), a leading provider of enterprise document management software, announced today that Compaq Computer Corp. has selected Documentum's Enterprise Document Management System (EDMS) as the document management standard for its enterprise-wide implementation of SAP's R/3 System(R), a cohesive set of business applications pertaining to all aspects of an organization, from sales and distribution to manufacturing.

Compaq, the world's largest supplier of personal computers, will benefit from plans announced by SAP and Documentum to integrate Documentum's document management capabilities within SAP's R/3 System.

Through Documentum's EDMS, end users throughout Compaq will have real-time access to SAP documentation and training relating to the use, implementation and deployment of the new system. As part of the reengineering initiative, Compaq is expected to deploy standard SAP end-user documentation for several thousand users around the world, managed by Documentum's EDMS.

SAP's R/3 system bridges the gap between planning, control, execution, materials management, and financials in manufacturing environments. Documentum recently announced signing an agreement with SAP to certify the integration between EDMS and the SAP R/3 system. The integration will enable SAP R/3 users to transparently access documents stored in Documentum's EDMS.

As part of the announcement, Compaq has also signed an agreement with Documentum to work together in designing, developing and testing versions of Documentum's EDMS for Microsoft Windows, NT and Microsoft's Back Office.
