) -- the world's leading server vendor -- today reduced prices on Compaq ProLiant 2500 servers up to 15 percent in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . The company also reduced U.S. prices on selected server storage up to 14 percent (a) and on selected server memory up to 30 percent (b). These price reductions were effective immediately.

When combined with the management, service, and upgrade capabilities of the ProLiant 2500, today's price reductions give this award-winning server a breakthrough total cost of ownership over the life of the product. In addition, these significant price reductions strongly enhance the value of the ProLiant 2500 for customers with large departmental application requirements and for remote/branch office customers. Today's price reductions -- which come just one month after the introduction of the ProLiant 2500 -- underline Compaq's commitment to maintaining its value leadership position in the mainstream server segment.

"Price is only one part of the value equation. And we won't ever let price be the factor that prevents consideration of Compaq server products," said Bob Fernander, Vice President, Enterprise Marketing, Compaq North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. . "But more importantly, value leadership as defined by our customers includes an outstanding total cost of ownership over the life of the system. We provide this distinct value advantage through the service, support, integration and management capabilities delivered as part of Compaq systems. Our value leadership, as defined by a total cost of ownership model, extends the reach of our customers' dollars."

Targeted at departmental and remote/branch office sites, the ProLiant 2500 comes standard with a comprehensive feature set designed to meet current customer requirements, while providing future expansion and incremental upgrade capability for investment protection. The newest product in Compaq's award-winning line of servers, the ProLiant 2500 is ideally suited to handle departmental database, Internet, or Intranet applications.

This design includes easily removed top-, side-, and back-access panels; subsystem modules that can be serviced without tools; and an easy tower-to-rack conversion capability. The ProLiant 2500 also features a smaller footprint than previous ProLiant servers, and its rack density has been significantly reduced from 12.25 inches (7U) to 8.75 inches (5U) -- both key considerations in data centers where floor space is limited or costly.

All models of the ProLiant 2500 ship standard with an industry-leading three-year warranty and Compaq's award- winning software tools, Compaq SmartStart and Compaq Insight Manager. SmartStart optimizes platform configurations and simplifies the installation of tested and reliable servers for fast and easy server setup. Insight Manager -- Compaq's intelligent server and client management application -- provides efficient monitoring and control of Compaq products for cost-effective management, no matter the server location.
