Compaq ProLiant Servers are the First to Ship with Production-Quality Pentium II Xeon Processors; Announces its Fourth Performance Title for these ProLiant Servers.

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 31, 1998--Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ), the industry-standard server market share leader, today announced worldwide that it has begun shipping Compaq ProLiant 7000 and ProLiant 6000 servers with production-quality 400 MHz Intel Pentium II Xeon processors in volume.

"While demand for these new servers has been strong, we've been awaiting resolution from Intel that identified ECC related errata have been corrected, and that our customers' data integrity is not at risk."

Prior to today, all Xeon processors shipped from any source for use in four-way servers have had this issue. After working closely with Intel to identify these issues, Compaq is pleased to see that an expedient resolution has been achieved.

ProLiant 7000 Eclipses Eight-Processor Microsoft Exchange Record

In addition to establishing world record benchmarks on TPC-C, SAP and Baan under Windows NT, the Compaq ProLiant 7000 has now set a new Microsoft Exchange Server Benchmark record of 15,000 simultaneous MAPI e-mail users, achieved at Compaq's Microsoft Competency Center in Redmond, Washington. This is the highest result ever achieved, surpassing the previous record of 13,800 achieved on an HP LXr Pro-8 server and demonstrating the performance superiority of the ProLiant server.
