Compaq Names UPN's Lucie Salhany to its Board of Directors.

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 7, 1996--Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) today announced the appointment of Lucille S. Salhany to its board of directors, bringing the total number of directors to 10. Salhany is president and chief executive officer of United Paramount Network (UPN) in Los Angeles, where she is the senior executive in charge of programming, distribution, marketing and all other creative and operational aspects of the new broadcast network.

Lucie Salhany's career spans more than 29 years in the television and entertainment industries. Prior to joining UPN, she was chairman of FOX Broadcasting Company where she was in charge of all operations of the company, including the FOX Children's Network and the cable service FOX NET. She was also a member of the Fox Inc. board of directors. Salhany joined FOX as chairman of Twentieth Television in July 1991.

Previously, Salhany was with Paramount Pictures, which she joined in 1985 as president, Paramount Domestic Television. Under her leadership, the division produced and distributed programs such as The Arsenio Hall Show, Entertainment Tonight, Hard Copy and Star Trek: The Next Generation. Before joining Paramount, Salhany served as vice president, television and cable programming, Taft Broadcasting Company from 1979 to 1985. She began her career in the television industry in 1967 at WKBF-TV in Cleveland.

UPN was launched on January 16, 1995, and originally offered original primetime programming on Monday and Tuesday evenings (8:00 to 10:00 p.m. ET/PT). UPN added Wednesdays to its primetime line-up last night with its first live event, the Blockbuster Entertainment Awards. In addition, UPN broadcasts a weekend movie Saturday afternoons and an hour of children's programming on Sunday mornings. Married and the mother of two children, Salhany received an honorary doctorate of humane letters degree from Emerson College in 1992, and currently holds a position on its board. She is on the executive committee of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television and is a board member of both the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and Hollywood Supports. Last June, Salhany received the American Women in Radio & Television's highest honor, The Silver Satellite Award, and in January 1995 she became the first female recipient of the American Jewish Committee's Sherrill C. Cowin Human Relations Award.
