Compaq Names Michael D. Capellas Senior Vice President, Information Management and Chief Information Officer.

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 4, 1998--In a move designed to continue its leadership in the innovative use of information technology, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) today named Michael D. Capellas Senior Vice President, Information Management and Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Capellas will provide leadership and direction to Compaq's information management organization on a global basis and work to enhance the company's ability to provide support to the combined operations of Compaq and the recently acquired operations of Digital and Tandem. The organization will support the development and deployment of world-class systems designed to streamline operations, enhance efficiencies, and improve customer responsiveness.

Capellas was previously senior vice president and general manager of Oracle's global energy sector. In addition, he spent 18 years with Schlumberger Limited in a variety of management positions, including serving as head of worldwide information services. Capellas also served as director of supply chain management for SAP America and Managing Director of Benchmarking Partners.

Also, Compaq today announced that John W. White, the current CIO, will remain with the company to assist during a transition period pending his retirement.
