) today announced that it reduced prices, by as much as 10 percent, on selected models in its Compaq ProLiant 1500 and Compaq ProSignia 500 mainstream server families. As part of its enhanced value proposition to customers, the company today also announced two promotional offers for its midrange-class Compaq ProLiant 4500 servers. These offers allow customers to increase their Pentium server processing power at no additional cost while ensuring a protected transition to Pentium Pro The sixth generation of the Intel x86 family of CPU chips. The term may refer to the chip or to a PC that uses it. Introduced in 1995 as the successor to the Pentium, models from 150 MHz to 200 MHz were released.  technology (see related Compaq release).
