Compaq Launches Monitor Promotion With Select Professional Workstation Models.

New Compaq 19-inch and 21-inch Monitors Now 50 Percent Off

With Purchase of Windows NT-Based Workstations

Continuing to set the price/performance standard for Windows NT-based workstations, Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE:CPQ) today announced a limited time promotion including a 50-percent price reduction, in the U.S., on new 19-inch and 21-inch monitors, when purchased with select 2D or 3D Compaq Professional Workstations between Nov. 1, 1997, and Jan. 31, 1998. Combined prices for 2D Professional Workstations with the Compaq V90 19-inch monitor now start at $3,943 (1), while 3D models with the Compaq P110--the world's first 21-inch Trinitron monitor--are available from only $6,799. These price reductions will allow users to purchase Compaq's new larger format monitors--at a deep discount--for enhanced productivity in visually demanding applications, such as financial trading, electronic design automation, computer-aided design and engineering, digital content creation and 2D/3D animation.

Customers who purchase any 2D Compaq Professional Workstation 5100, 6000 or 8000 model before Feb. 1, 1998, will save 50 percent on the price of the new Compaq V90 19-inch (18-inch viewable image size) color monitor. The V90 delivers 2.5 inches more viewing image than 17-inch monitors, the .26mm dot pitch and 1600 X 1200 resolution at 85 Hz refresh rate, provide exceptional performance and value for budget-conscious power users.

For customers who purchase a 3D Compaq Professional Workstation 5100, 6000 or 8000 model before Feb. 1, 1998, Compaq is offering a 50-percent reduction on the price of the Compaq P110 21-inch (19.8-inch viewable image size) monitor. The P110 is the world's first 21-inch Trinitron monitor and features a .25-.27mm aperture grille for sharper focus, brighter picture and improved contrast. It also supports both 1600 X 1200 and 1280 X 1024 resolutions at 85 Hz for flicker-free images and less scrolling.

Industry-standard Compaq Professional Workstations are designed to support processor- and graphics-intensive applications as well as business productivity software on the same industry-standard platform. They are the first and only Windows NT-based workstations to use the Highly Parallel System Architecture (HPSA). HPSA provides up to four times the memory bandwidth (1.07 GB/s) and two times the I/O bandwidth (267 MB/s) than the competing Windows NT-based workstations which dramatically decreases I/O bottlenecks and increases the performance in demanding application environments.

The Compaq Professional Workstation 5100 supports up to two 266 MHz or 300 MHz Pentium II processors and delivers high performance and great affordability in a desktop design. The highly expandable Compaq Professional Workstation 6000 is ideally suited for graphics-intensive applications and supports up to two 266 MHz or 300 MHz Pentium II processors. For applications that demand large memory capacity such as digital assemblies, rendering and computer-aided engineering, the Compaq Professional Workstation 8000 offers superior performance to that of other NT-based workstations by supporting up to four 200 MHz Pentium Pro processors and 3GB of memory.
