The original Compaq Deskpro, available in several disk configurations, was equipped with an 8MHz 8086 CPU and Compaq's unique customers. The new Compaq hard drives include 2.1GB and 8.4GB Ultra ATA An enhanced version of the IDE interface that transfers data at 33, 66 or 100 Mbytes/sec. These enhancements are also called "Ultra DMA," "UDMA," "ATA-33," "ATA-66," "ATA-100," "DMA-33," "DMA-66" and "DMA-100." The drives achieve a transfer rate of 33MB per second and an average access rate of less than 10ms, allowing users to store large amounts of data and access information on the hard drive twice as fast as regular hard drives. The 2.1GB Ultra ATA hard drive is available for $269(1) and the 8.4GB Ultra ATA hard drive is priced at $475(1). The 4.3GB and the 9.1GB Wide UltraSCSI hard drives have an exceptional transfer rate of 40MB per second and run at 7200rpm, giving users increased capacity and speed for multi-tasking performance.
