Family of microprocessors developed by Intel Corp. Introduced in 1993 as the successor to Intel's 80486 microprocessor, the Pentium contained two processors on a single chip and about 3.3 million transistors.

) today announced the company is shipping models of the Professional Workstation 6000 with Intel's Pentium II The successor to the Pentium Pro from Intel. Pentium II refers to the CPU chip or the PC that uses it. Code named "Klamath," the Pentium II was a Pentium Pro with MMX multimedia instructions.  processor with extended Tag RAM, enabling the workstation to support up to 3 GB of system memory, the most available in any Windows NT-based workstation on the market. This capability - coupled with Compaq's innovative Highly Parallel System Architecture - enables technical and creative professionals to work interactively on extremely large models and assemblies without the performance lag caused in other Windows NT-based workstations. These new models will also deliver the added performance of 10,000 rpm 4 GB hard drives.
