The agreement between Cheyenne and Compaq was originally executed in May 1994. In July 1994 Cheyenne ARCserve for NetWare - Windows Edition was included on Compaq's SmartStart software distribution CD-ROM. SmartStart is the intelligent way to reliably configure and optimize Compaq servers.

"Compaq's selection of Cheyenne ARCserve for Windows NT v1.0 and its autochanger See autoloader.  option, validates Cheyenne's advanced architecture, in addition to the product's unique capabilities," said Cheyenne executive vice president of corporate development, Jim McNiel. "Compaq has established the industry standard for network file servers, and we believe the standard for file server backup, as well."

Effective May 22, 1995 Compaq will be including SmartStart with ARCserve for Windows NT with each ProLiant and ProSignia server. The SmartStart CD, which currently includes Cheyenne's award winning backup software See backup program.
