Collaborative Product Commerce is a new category of software application. The goal is to focus a company's manufacturing design efforts on a specific challenge in a manner that invites the collaboration of all parties simultaneously, so that the participants can update and alter the program in real-time, significantly enhancing the product speed-to-market cycle. This not only helps the manufacturer keep or gain market share, it results in significant efficiencies across its entire unit-cost chain. Human resources, material, training and production costs are all reduced, resulting in increased cash flow, ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. "Compaq is looking to redefine the Internet experience. We address this with Integrated Services and content with leading general purpose PCs, industry-standard servers, high-performance computing systems, innovative Internet access devices and integrated wireless and broadband," said Mr. Scheid.

The alliance between the two companies starts with Compaq's IT support of PTC. Compaq has set up a center within PTC's physical location, allowing for a true corporate symbiotic relationship. As PTC's clients show new needs, Compaq's on-site presence allows it to not only advise PTC, but gives them the advantage of knowing how to immediately upgrade their IT infrastructure, as well as design systems with this level of migration in mind. From the manufacturer's position, PTC's exchange solution called Windchill Netmarkets provides for a real-time collaborative effort that focuses on a specific product, with input available from all phases of the manufacturing chain. Windchill Netmarkets further supports and enables manufacturer-sponsored private exchanges, industry market-sponsored marketplaces as well as public exchanges.
