) today announced the availability of its latest additions to its award-winning Deskpro EN and Deskpro EP Series. Featuring Intel's latest Pentium(R) II and Intel(R) Celeron(tm) processors, the new Deskpro PCs are poised to deliver on Compaq's promise to provide the best combination of value and quality in its desktops designed for business customers. The new Deskpro EN and EP Series models will be available immediately in the U.S. and Canada through Compaq authorized resellers and Compaq DirectPlus.

Deskpro EN Series

Compaq's Deskpro EN Series is designed for enterprise customers who seek a combination of manageability, serviceability and consistency in their PCs. Available in desktop, minitower or small form factor chassis design, the line offers new Pentium II processor 450 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  and Intel Celeron processors, SMART Ultra ATA hard drives up to 14.4 GB(1), 32X Max CD-ROM CD-ROM: see compact disc.

Deskpro EP Series

The Deskpro EP Series offers customers the latest technologies at the most competitive prices. The new models will feature the highest levels of performance with new Pentium II processor 450 MHz and Intel Celeron processors, SMART Ultra ATA hard drives up to 14.4 GB, Matrox MGA-G100 or Matrox Millennium G200-SD AGP graphics adapters with excellent 2D, 3D and multimedia performance. Select models feature 16-bit, full-duplex audio featuring Compaq PremierSound. Starting prices for the Deskpro EP Series configured with an Pentium II 450 MHz processor begins at $2,229(5). Models featuring the Intel Celeron 300A MHz processor start at $1,249(6).

Advanced Features Available with Deskpro Models

The Deskpro EN Series and Deskpro EP Series are equipped with Intel's fastest, most powerful processors available, the Pentium II processor 450 MHz, and Intel Celeron processor in 333 MHz or 300A MHz, which offer customers value and performance at entry-level pricing.

Additionally, for customers who require additional features or upgrades, Compaq offers several choices. These include Compaq's state-of-the-art security solution, the Fingerprint Identification Technology, available for under $100, to simplify the login process and improve network security.

New options are available for the Deskpro EN and EP Series, including the 3Com Fast EtherLink(R) XL 10/100 PCI with Remote Wakeup and the Matrox Millennium G200 AGP graphics controller. Enhanced modems, monitors and optical storage options are also available.

Memory Enhancements For Compaq Deskpro Customers

Coinciding with today's Deskpro announcement, Compaq announces a new line of Synchronous Graphic Random Access Memory (SGRAM (Synchronous Graphics RAM) A type of dynamic RAM chip that is similar to the SDRAM technology, but includes enhanced graphics features for use with display adapters. ) and Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory (storage) Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory - (SDRAM, Synchronous DRAM) A form of DRAM which adds a separate clock signal to the control signals. SDRAM chips can contain more complex state machines, allowing them to support "burst" access modes that clock out a series of  (SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM) A type of dynamic RAM (DRAM) memory chip that has been widely used since the late 1990s. Intelligent Manageability and Serviceability Features

All new Compaq models include Compaq's award-winning Intelligent Manageability features which deliver easy control and management throughout the PC's life while lowering the total cost of ownership. All new Deskpro models support Compaq's Web-enabled Management Agents which fully support Compaq Insight Manager XE, the industry's first WBEM (Web-Based Enterprise Management) An umbrella term for using Internet technologies to manage systems and networks throughout the enterprise. Both browsers and applications can be used to access the information that is made available in formats such as HTML and  (Web Based Enterprise Management) application. Compaq Insight Manager XE allows IT managers the ability to manage any Deskpro or manageable hardware device using SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc. , DMI (Desktop Management Interface) The first desktop management standard from the DMTF. Enabling PCs to be monitored from a central console, it was superseded by the DMTF's Common Information Model (see CIM).  2.0 or Web-enabled agents. Both the Deskpro EP and Deskpro EN Series include comprehensive Intelligent Manageability features such as DMI 2.0 support, Remote Wakeup/Remote Shutdown, Remote ROM Flash, Remote Security Management and Memory Change Alert.
