HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 1998--The world leader in monitor shipments for three consecutive years, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ), today announced dramatic U.S. price reductions of up to 36 percent on its flat panel displays. The recently announced TFT450, a 14.5-inch viewable flat panel display, has been reduced 25 percent to $1,199(a). The award-winning TFT500, a 15-inch viewable flat panel display, has been reduced 36 percent to $1,599.

Today's price reductions reflect the changing flat panel market. The high cost of first generation flat panel displays limited customers to those for whom maximizing desk space was a necessity despite the price premium, such as those in financial trading. With today's price reductions, flat panel display technology is now available to a broader audience who demand the highest quality display and desire the space-saving benefits of a flat panel monitor, such as retail banking, insurance, medical, point of sale and entertainment.
