Available immediately through the Desktop V contract, the feature-rich, value-oriented Compaq Deskpro The Compaq Deskpro was a line of business-oriented personal computers manufactured by Compaq, discontinued after the merger with Hewlett-Packard.

The original Compaq Deskpro, available in several disk configurations, was equipped with an 8MHz 8086 CPU and Compaq's unique
 2000 models, which include 200 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. Deskpro 2000 Models - Affordable, Manageable Desktop PCs

Delivering an excellent balance of affordability and performance for the value-conscious federal government buyer, the contract offers three specially-configured models of the Compaq Deskpro 2000: the Compaq Deskpro 2000 Model 5200X/2100, a desktop PC with 200 MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology, 2.1GB EIDE (Enhanced IDE) An extension to the IDE interface that supports the ATA-2 and ATAPI standards. ATA-2 (Fast ATA) provides faster transfer rates (see IDE for details) and allows for multiple channels, each connecting two devices.  SMART II Hard Drive, 16MB SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM) A type of dynamic RAM (DRAM) memory chip that has been widely used since the late 1990s. SDRAM chips eliminated wait states by dividing the chip into two cell blocks and interleaving data between them.  and a 16X MAX Slot Load CD-ROM Drive A device that holds and reads CD-ROM discs. CD-ROM drives generally also play audio CD discs by sending analog sound to the sound card via a 4-pin cable. For specifications of 10x, 20x, etc. drives, see CD-ROM drives. Under this contract, all three Compaq Deskpro models come with Microsoft Office Microsoft's primary desktop applications for Windows and Mac. Depending on the package, it includes some combination of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook along with various Internet and other utilities.  97 software (Professional Edition), free software upgrades through 1999, a PC Card Reader (Outback Style) and a five-year, worldwide warranty. In addition, both Compaq Deskpro 2000/5200 models are offered with a choice of Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 4.0.

Leading the industry in manageability features, the Deskpro 2000 models incorporate Compaq's Intelligent Manageability, enabling users to manage costs for the product's lifetime and making the PCs easier to manage from a central location on the network. All Compaq Deskpro 2000 models incorporating Pentium processors with MMX technology include additional new Compaq Enhanced Intelligent Manageability features:

Asset Management:

-- DMI (Desktop Management Interface) The first desktop management standard from the DMTF. Enabling PCs to be monitored from a central console, it was superseded by the DMTF's Common Information Model (see CIM).  BIOS support (ROM BIOS (ROM Basic Input Output System) The BIOS in a PC stored on a ROM chip.
