It was originally designed to run on top of Operating System/2 Extended Edition. The network client was called IBM LAN Requester and was included with OS/2 EE 1.1 by default. to Microsoft Windows See Windows. (operating system) Microsoft Windows - Microsoft's proprietary window system and user interface software released in 1985 to run on top of MS-DOS. Widely criticised for being too slow (hence "Windoze", "Microsloth Windows") on the machines available then. NT Lieberman and Associates announced the immediate availability of version 1.5B of the "LAN Server (1) A network operating system from IBM that runs as a server application under OS/2 and supports DOS, Windows and OS/2 clients. Migration proceeds at the rate of thousands of users per hour with all encrypted passwords, memberships and file assets moved intact to the NT platform. Consolidation of multiple LAN Server domains into a single NT domain is also provided. Product Background Many of IBM's major LAN Server customers have decided on NT as their future strategic platform. The problem IBM's customers face is simple: how to migrate thousands of users with their gigabytes of data and access control lists from LAN Server to NT with the least amount of disruption. The answer was the development of a set of tools by Lieberman and Associates to plan and then automate the migration process. The Migration Wizard consists of both OS/2 and NT tools. For OS/2, Lieberman and Associates provides its "LAN Intensive Care Utilities" and "Intensive Care Report Generator Same as report writer. " to document and export a customer's LAN Server domains. The data is imported into NT -- using the "Migration Wizard" where the data from multiple LAN Server domains is combined. A series of "Resolve" dialogs map users, groups and aliases (file and printer shares) to NT Server or legacy LAN Server machines. Finally, the accounts and data are moved to the NT domain of choice. Total time to move 1,000 users (no maximum) is less than one hour. Pricing The Migration Wizard is available from stock and sells for $10/migrated user (100/250/500-user packages available). Vendor reports that migration and planning takes three to five days. Product includes one year of unlimited planning and support assistance via telephone and e-mail (on-site assistance available).
