Australian airline Qantas Airways may split itself into four operating businesses as it seeks ways to unlock value following a failed takeover, analysts said on Tuesday. Analysts from two major brokerages have told clients Qantas may create a new aircraft leasing unit and separate its frequent flyer program and freight assets from the main business. The highly prestigious London to Sydney air route is to gain a third premium economy operator in February 2008 when Qantas Airways joins British Airways and Virgin Atlantic in offering upgraded cabin. The new Qantas layout will pave the way for the introduction of similar accommodation on the Airbus A380 when it is introduced later in the year.
