Martinair will be P&W's European launch customer at the engine provider's new EcoPower service center station at Schiphol. "The engine washing process is a closed-loop, environmentally friendly system that uses atomized water to wash aircraft engines," P&W said in a statement. "Not only does the system avoid potentially harmful runoff from the washing process, but it also is more effective and much faster than traditional engine-washing processes." EcoPower was established in 2005 at New York JFK and Los Angeles International. Nov 14, 2006

Pratt & Whitney signed a three-year agreement to provide its EcoPower engine wash services on Martinair's fleet of PW4000, CF6 and V2500 engines. The engine washing will take place at Amsterdam Schiphol and is projected to save the airline up to $2.3 million in annual fuel costs. "Earlier this year we completed an EcoPower engine wash pilot program that resulted in engine performance improvements, operating cost reductions and emission reductions," Martinair VP-Maintenance and Engineering Paul Horstink said. "Results showed substantial takeoff exhaust gas temperature improvements as well as cruise fuel flow improvements. We now plan to wash our entire fleet of 55 engines regularly and expect to achieve an annual carbon dioxide emissions reduction of 23.7 million lb." Nov 14, 2006

Pratt & Whitney lands engine order worth $100M. Pratt & Whitney has won a $100 million order to help supply Tiger Airlines with V2500 engines. Pratt is a member of a consortium that also includes the U.K.'s Rolls-Royce Group PLC, Japanese Aero Engines Corp. and Germany-based MTU Aero Engines. Nov 14, 2006
