US carriers, battered by low-cost competition at home, have sought out growth on lucrative international routes, and China's economic expansion presents a strong opportunity for airlines with service there. Northwest to file reorganization plan next week. Northwest Airlines plans to file a reorganization plan to exit bankruptcy with a federal court next week. Northwest-Delta combination would have synergies, analysts say. Some observers say a potential merger between Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines is a strong alternative to US Airways' bid for Delta because the two airlines have complementary route structures.
