One piece of news that largely went unnoticed at Farnborough was the announcement by Mauricio Botelho, at London's Inner Temple of all places, that he is stepping down from the day-to-day running of Embraer next spring. Mauricio, an industrialist, came to Embraer ten years ago when the company, always innovative, was not the world aviation powerhouse it its today. Always smiling, with a prodigious pro·di·gious

Embraer 190/195 aircraft have demonstrated a 3% better fuel burn than previously expected, the company said here. Based on some 3,000 flight hr. per year, with fuel at $2 a gallon a 190/195 operator will save about $1 million per aircraft over 20 years of operation. With more than 20 of the type now in service, Embraer has been able to confirm fuel burn more accurately. Related aircraft manuals will be revised to reflect the change. Jul 20, 2006
