Boeing has received firm orders for another 26 737s and eight 787s but has not identified the customers. The new orders take unidentified orders for the 737 to 84 and for the 787 to 29 and orders for the overall year for all models to 666, including seven cancellations. It is thought that the latest additions may be an order from Avianca, which wants to replace its MD-83 and 767 fleets with 737s and 787s. Sep 29, 2006

British Airways engine incident creates controversy. An engine manlfunction on a British Airways 747 last year continues to generate controversy over the role of economics versus safety, the Wall Street Journal's Scott McCartney writes. When one of four engines quit working when the London-bound plane took off from Los Angeles, the pilots decided to continue flying, and they traveled more than 5,000 miles before making an emergency landing. Air traffic control tapes reveal more details about the incident, and pilots and regulators continue to debate the decision, McCartney writes. Sep 25, 2006

FedEx to upgrade fleet with used 757-200s. FedEx says it will spend $2.6 billion to buy and upgrade nearly 90 used Boeing 757-200s. The planes will replace the air-cargo shipping company's 727s. The 757s are bigger, carry more cargo and are more efficient to operate, FedEx says. Sep 26, 2006

Qatar Airways ordered 40 high-thrust GE90 engines to power 20 777s it has on order for delivery beginning next year. The engine order is valued at more than $750 million. The carrier ordered 14 777-300ERs, which will be powered by GE90-115Bs, and six 777-200LRs, which will be powered by GE90-110Bs. Singapore Airlines plans to install Panasonic Avionics' new eX2 IFE Ife (ē`fā), city (1991 est. pop. 262,000), SW Nigeria. Located in a farm region, the city is an important center for marketing and shipping cacao.
