Boeing has rolled out the latest version of the 737, the -900ER, a heritage that in terms of fuselage cross section and basic concept dates back to the original 707 which first flew in 1957. With a new pair of exit doors and a flat rear-pressure bulkhead maximum capacity has been raised to 215 in a single-class layout, not far short of the similar, and now out of production, 757. The aircraft is capable of flying non-stop US coast to coast. Jakarta-based Lion Air Lion Air is a low-cost airline based in Jakarta, Indonesia. It operates scheduled passenger services on an extensive domestic network from Jakarta to 35 destinations, as well as services to Singapore and Malaysia. Its full name is PT Lion Mentari Airlines.  was the first customer with an order for 30 aircraft last year, which was doubled in the June just gone. In addition Continental Airlines, Sky Airlines, Futura International Airways Futura International Airways is an airline based in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. It operates scheduled services and charter flights for tour operators and other airlines, in Europe, as well as wet lease and ad hoc charters. Boeing has identified more of the 737 customers listed on its website. The orders are part of the 150-aircraft commitment from China. Boeing unveiled the new 737-900ER (Extended Range) airplane before thousands of employees and guests at the company's Renton, Wash., manufacturing facility. Boeing launched the 737-900ER in July 2005 when Jakarta-based Lion Air announced an order for 30 737-900ERs. Lion Air also exercised purchase rights for 30 additional 737-900ERs in June 2006. In addition to Lion Air, the 737-900ER has been ordered by Continental Airlines, GE Commercial Aviation Services GECAS (GE Commercial Aviation Services, formerly GE Capital Aviation Services, though the acronym is the more common usage) is a unit of GE Commercial Finance, itself part of the large conglomerate General Electric. The president of GECAS is Henry Hubschman.  (GECAS GECAS General Electric Commercial Aviation Services ) and Sky Airlines. Futura International Airways and Excel Airways will begin operating 737-900ERs on lease from GECAS in 2008. Boeing Business Jets ordered two 787s for delivery to corporate customers. The order that was posted on Boeing's website last week is in addition to three 787s ordered by an unidentified customer. They bring the number of net Dreamliner orders this year to 77 and the number of commercial aircraft orders to 518. Aug 7, 2006
