Airtran Q2 Revenue Likely To Fall. Airtran, parent of low-cost carrier A low-cost carrier or low-cost airline (also known as a no-frills or discount carrier / airline) is an airline that offers generally low fares in exchange for eliminating many traditional passenger services.  Airtran Airways AirTran Airways is a low-cost airline that is a Delaware corporation with headquarters in Orlando, Florida, USA and is a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings. AirTran operates over 750 daily flights throughout the eastern USA and the Midwest, including over 270 daily departures from , said its passenger revenue likely declined between 5 percent and 5.5 percent in the second quarter. In a government filing, the airline said its non-fuel costs are expected to have fallen between 5.25 percent and 5.75 percent in the quarter. Airtran, which has made a bid for rival Midwest Air Group Midwest Air Group, Inc. AMEX: MEH is an airline holding company based in Oak Creek, Wisconsin now controlled by parent company, TPG Capital Texas Pacific Group. AirTran Airways announced an upgrade to its Portland, Maine, service. Seasonal weekly flights to Orlando International will become a year-round daily service beginning Nov. 7.
