 urges inspection of Airbus A300 rudders for disbonding. The US National Transportation Safety Board on Friday urged FAA to order immediate inspections of the inner skin of the composite rudder surfaces of certain A300 series aircraft in order potentially to avert the possibility of "a catastrophic failure A catastrophic failure is a sudden and total failure of some system from which recovery is impossible. The affected system not only experiences destruction beyond any reasonable possibility of repair, but also frequently causes injury, death, or significant damage to other, often  of the rudder," NTSB Acting Chairman Mark Rosenker said in a statement. Investigators in the U.S. and Canada are asking Airbus to establish regular inspections of the rudders on its A300 jetliners. Finnair gave Airbus's A350 program a boost yesterday by signing a contract for nine A350-900s, three A340-300Es and four options, firming a commitment it made in December. The first of the Trent 1700-powered A350s will be delivered in 2012 and seat 314 in a two-class configuration. The long-haul fleet renewal is part of Finnair's Asian growth strategy.
