Midwest Rebuffs Latest AirTran Offer Midwest Air Group's board of directors today officially rebuffed AirTran Airways' most recent takeover offer, which the carrier raised earlier this month. AirTran steps up pressure regarding merger AirTran is stepping up pressure on Midwest directors as they consider a formal response to the April 2 bid of $9 in cash and 0.5842 of an AirTran share for each Midwest share. AirTran Airways voiced its support for US FAA's initiative to raise the mandatory retirement age for commercial pilots to 65 from 60. FAA expects to issue a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking by year end . The National Pilots Assn., which represents AirTran's 1,400 pilots, recently voted unanimously to allow pilots an additional five years of flying. Meanwhile, the Air Line Pilots Assn. is waiting for the May release of a report prepared by its Age 60 Blue Ribbon Panel before announcing its position. Currently, ALPA policy supports Age 60. AirTran to return to first-quarter profitability AirTran Holdings, parent of AirTran Airways, expects to report a "small" first-quarter profit when it releases its results on April 25, it said yesterday. Apr 11, 2007

AirTran faces strike three, calls Midwest 'delusional' The board of Midwest Air Group reviewed and unanimously rejected AirTran Holdings' third merger proposal last week, prompting the Atlanta-based carrier to label its target "irresponsible" and "delusional" in a Friday statement. Apr 13, 2007

US consolidation begins with ATA acquisition of World Air Airline consolidation in the US began last week on a smaller scale than the failed mega-merger between US Airways and Delta Air Lines and AirTran Airways' contentious pursuit of Midwest Air Group as ATA Airlines parent ATA Holdings bought out World Air Holdings, parent of World Airways and North American Airlines, for $315 million in cash or $12.50 per share.
