Compal Communications Demonstrates DVB-H and T-DMB Pocket PC Powered by Siano; Compal's Pocket PC, running Microsoft Mobile 2003 operating system, integrates Siano's mobile DTV chipset.


BARCELONA, Spain -- Compal Communications Inc., a leading manufacturer of IT and communication devices, announced today that it will demonstrate a complete application of DVB-H See mobile TV and DVB.  and T-DMB T-DMB Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting  on its Pocket PC at the 3GSM World Congress taking place February 13-16 in Barcelona. The DVB-H and T-DMB receiver is made by Siano Mobile Silicon - a fabless manufacturer of integrated semiconductor receivers for mobile digital television (MDTV MDTV Mountaineer Doctor Television ).

DVB-H and T-DMB are positioned to be the most widely adopted MDTV standards when the MDTV market starts later this year. They allow efficient, high quality, low power perception of TV broadcast programs on mobile and hand-held devices.

The Compal Pocket PC supports DVB-H and T-DMB at QVGA (Quarter VGA) A screen resolution of 320x240 pixels, which is used on handheld devices. Although 320x240 seems half the 640x480 VGA resolution, the "quarter" comes from the total number of pixels, which is one fourth the number (320 times 240=76800; 640 times 480=307200).  resolution (320 x 240 pixels) at 30 frames per second, with stereo audio at 16-bit sample resolution.
