Compact [CO.sub.2] laser.Coherent Medical Group has launched UltraPulse Encore, a streamlined compact [CO.sub.2] laser developed for improved precision in cutting and ablating while preserving underlying tissue structures. With Coherent's unique pulse technology, surgeons can control both the volume of tissue ablation ablation /ab·la·tion/ (-shun) 1. separation or detachment; extirpation; eradication. 2. removal or destruction, especially by cutting. ab·la·tion n. and the speed at which it occurs. The UltraPulse Encore delivers 60 watts of continuous-wave energy and 60 watts of pulsed energy. This "60/60 Double-Barrel Technology" permits precise cutting for delicate surgery, as with laryngeal laryngeal /lar·yn·ge·al/ (lah-rin´je-al) pertaining to the larynx. la·ryn·geal or la·ryn·gal adj. Unlike conventional [CO.sub.2] lasers, the Encore has separate energy-per-pulse and pulse-rate controls. The pulse energy acts as a scoop, allowing the physician to ablate more or less tissue with each pulse, while the average power determines the rate of pulse arrival and controls the overall rate of tissue removal. In addition, the large color display, touch-screen touch-screen n (COMPUT) → touch-screen m inv; schermo sensibile controls, and memory settings make it easy to select appropriate parameters and adjust settings during treatments. Both an operating room operating room n. Abbr. OR A room equipped for performing surgical operations. model and an office model are available. |
