CompUSA Inc. FISCAL 1993 THIRD QUARTER SALES UP 68.2 PERCENT

 DALLAS, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- CompUSA Inc. (NYSE: CPU), America's largest computer superstore retailer, today announced that sales for the third quarter ended March 27, 1993, increased 68.2 percent to $365.0 million from $217.0 million for the comparable period ended March 28, 1992.
 Comparable-store sales were up 19.7 percent for the fiscal 1993 third quarter for the 24 stores open for a year or more.
 For the first nine months of fiscal 1993, net sales were up 63.2 percent to $952.9 million from $583.7 million for the first nine months of fiscal 1992. Comparable-store sales for the nine months of fiscal 1993 were up 19.0 percent from the first nine months of fiscal 1992.
 "CompUSA's third quarter sales were up significantly from strong sales a year ago as demand for personal computers and related products has continued to grow dramatically," said Nathan Morton, president and chief executive officer.
 "Our company has been successful in capturing market share due to the growing acceptance of our superstore merchandising concept and our increasing availability to customers in new markets," Morton said. "We expect to continue our rapid roll-out of stores in both new and existing markets to maintain our leadership position."
 The percentage increases in comparable-store sales for each of the following fiscal 1993 periods were:

 CompUSA currently operates 43 high-volume computer superstores in 28 major metropolitan areas throughout the U.S. The superstores offer more than 5,000 microcomputer hardware, software and related products at deep-discount prices to retail, business, governmental and institutional customers. The superstores also include full- service maintenance operations and classroom training facilities.
