"We encourage those who are considering a career in computer technology to view the A+ certification process as a way of learning how to learn in technology," said Gene Salois, vice president certification CompTIA. "A+ is generally the first technology credential earned and it is a cornerstone, along with education and experience, to building a successful career in technology."

"The upgrades to the exams reflect changes to technology and to workplace tasks for computer service and support technicians," said Tancy Stanbery, senior certification program manager, CompTIA. "Subject matter experts from across the globe worked with CompTIA to assist in identifying what technicians need to master in order to be successful. With this upgrade, CompTIA is more specific and detailed in its descriptions of the topics covered in the exam. This will help learners and educators more easily identify what they need to know to earn the A+ credential."

Each exam has 80 multiple-choice questions and a 90-minute time limit. An extensive description of covered topics, referenced courseware, and referenced training organizations can be found under CompTIA A+ certification on the CompTIA website www.comptia.org. CompTIA is allowing the mixing and matching of A+ exams covering the 2001 objectives with upgraded A+ exams covering the 2003 objectives. This means that an A+ candidate who passed one of the A+ exams covering the 2001 objectives can take the upgraded version of the remaining test and earn the certification.
