CompTIA RFID+ Certification Available March 28; Industry's first vendor-neutral certification of RFID skills aimed at addressing tech talent shortage.

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. -- The Computing Technology Industry Association See CompTIA.  (CompTIA), the world's largest provider of vendor neutral certifications for professionals in the information technology (IT) industry, announced today that its newest certification, CompTIA RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) A data collection technology that uses electronic tags for storing data. The tag, also known as an "electronic label," "transponder" or "code plate," is made up of an RFID chip attached to an antenna. +(TM), is scheduled for worldwide availability on March 28.

CompTIA RFID+ is a professional certification Professional certification, trade certification, or professional designation, often called simply certification or qualification, is a designation earned by a person to assure that he/she is qualified to perform a job or task.  of skills in radio frequency identification See RFID.  (RFID) technology that addresses the needs of RFID hardware and software manufacturers, value added resellers, training developers, and end-users of the technology. The certification was developed with the contributions of more than 20 organizations with leadership positions in the global RFID industry.

Research commissioned by CompTIA indicates that adoption of RFID technology is on the verge On the Verge (or The Geography of Yearning) is a play written by Eric Overmyer. It makes extensive use of esoteric language and pop culture references from the late nineteenth century to 1955.  of explosive growth in 2006 and beyond. At the same time, 75 percent of the technology companies participating in a February 2006 CompTIA survey said they do not believe there is a sufficient "pool of talent" in RFID technology from which to hire. Among companies that believe there is a talent shortage, 80 percent said the lack of individuals skilled in RFID will impact adoption of the technology.

CompTIA RFID+ certification is intended to help address the skills shortage. Certification competencies were developed through industry participation and the exam was created by subject matter experts who identified the types of skills that are critical to successful RFID implementations. Among the skills the certification exam will test are installation, configuration and maintenance of RFID hardware and device software; site surveys and site analysis; and tag selection, placement and testing. The certification is intended for technology professionals with a minimum of six to twenty-four months of experience in RFID or related data collection technologies.

Organizations that contributed their expertise in the development CompTIA RFID+ include American RFID Solutions; the Association for Automatic Identification and Mobility (AIM Global); Briljent, LLC (Logical Link Control) See "LANs" under data link protocol.
