CompTIA IT Merit Award Winners Announced; Ten Texas students recognized by CompTIA Educational Foundation.


OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. -- Ten high school and college students from Texas who are pursuing careers in the information technology (IT) industry are the latest recipients of IT Student Merit Awards from the Computing Technology Industry Association See CompTIA.  (CompTIA) and the CompTIA Educational Foundation, the association announced today.

The CompTIA IT Student Merit Awards recognize outstanding accomplishments by students and adult learners Adult learner is a term used to describe any person socially accepted as an adult who is in a learning process, whether it is formal education, informal learning, or corporate-sponsored learning.  who have trained for and received CompTIA certification. Since 2001 when the program began, more than 235 students from 41 states and Canada have received CompTIA IT Merit Awards - a cash award to be used toward their continuing education continuing education: see adult education.

"By achieving certifications of IT skills, these students have taken an important first step toward rewarding careers in our industry," said John Venator, president and chief executive officer, CompTIA. "On behalf of the more than 20,000 members of CompTIA, I congratulate them on their outstanding accomplishments."

CompTIA IT Student Merit Award winners include:

--Antonio Alexander, Middle College for Technology Careers Middle College for Technology Careers at Texas Southern University was a secondary school located in Houston, Texas.

Middle College, which served grades 9 through 12, was a part of the Houston Independent School District.
 High School, Houston

--Antonio Cleofas, Reagan High School Reagan High School might refer to:

"The Department of Labor estimates that more than 90 percent of all IT professionals work in non-IT companies. Employers demand workers who know how to operate IT systems. The CompTIA IT Student Merit Awards program recognizes individuals who are developing the skills to meet that demand today and in the future."

Funding for the awards comes from an industry endowment to the CompTIA Educational Foundation.
