CompTIA IT Merit Award Winners Announced; Eighteen students recognized by CompTIA Educational Foundation.

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 15, 2004

Eighteen students pursuing careers in the information technology (IT) industry are the latest recipients of IT Student Merit Awards from CompTIA, the Computing Technology Industry Association See CompTIA. , and the CompTIA Educational Foundation.

The CompTIA IT Student Merit Awards recognize outstanding accomplishments by high school and college students and adult learners who have trained for and received CompTIA certification. Since 2001 when the program began, more than 225 students from 41 states and Canada have received CompTIA IT Merit Awards - a cash award to be used toward their continuing education continuing education: see adult education.

Any form of learning provided for adults. In the U.S. the University of Wisconsin was the first academic institution to offer such programs (1904).

"CompTIA certifications are recognized throughout the IT community as a reliable predictor of employee success on the job," said John Venator, president and chief executive officer, CompTIA. "The certifications attained by these students demonstrate the credibility of their education and training; and validate their technical expertise in specific IT skills valued by employers."

The Spring 2004 award winners include:

-- Timur Alperovich, Natick High School Natick High School is a public high school serving students in grades 9-12 in Natick, Massachusetts. The school is located on the bank of Dug Pond. It enrolled 1189 students as of the 2005-06 school year. The current principal is John Hughes. , Billerica, Mass.

-- Michael Anderson Michael Anderson is the name of:
  • Michael Anderson Pereira da Silva, Brazilian footballer currently playing in Ukraine for FC Dynamo Kyiv
  • Michael P. Anderson, an astronaut killed in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in 2003

-- Colin Craig, Assiniboine Community College Assiniboine Community College has an interesting 40-year history. Originally called the Brandon Vocational Training Centre, it opened its doors in February 1961, with a staff of two administrative personnel and two instructors, two course offerings, and a total of 24 students. , Brandon, Manitoba Brandon is a city in southwestern Manitoba, Canada. The surrounding area is often referred to as "Westman".

CompTIA IT Merit Award winners are selected twice each year. Funding for the awards comes from an endowment to the CompTIA Educational Foundation.
