CompCore demonstrates MPEG-2 running on Intel's MMX technology.

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 1, 1996--CompCore Multimedia Inc. today demonstrated its latest implementation of MPEG-2 software technology running on an Intel MMX (MultiMedia EXtensions) A set of 57 additional instructions built into the Pentium MMX chip for improved multimedia and modem performance by performing mathematical operations on multiple sets of data at the same time (see SIMD).  computer at the WinHEC trade show.

CompCore's MPEG-2 software demonstration can be viewed at the San Jose Convention Center April 1 and 2 in Intel's booth.

CompCore is the leader in MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video. Pronounced "em-peg," it is the universal standard for digital terrestrial, cable and satellite TV, DVDs and digital video recorders (DVRs).  software decoders, which allow PC end users to play MPEG videos without requiring additional specialized hardware. SoftPEG, CompCore's MPEG-1 player, can operate today at a full 30-frames per second utilizing a 120 MHz Pentium processor.

CompCore is currently working on new technology such as MPEG-2 and Dolby AC-3 video and audio decoders, which will require substantially more processing power to operate real-time on future personal computers.

The demonstration today at WinHEC of CompCore's MPEG-2 software utilizing MMX instructions is the first public showing of this technology.

"CompCore is very committed to utilizing Intel's MMX instruction set for our new line of MPEG software video and AC-3 audio decoders," said George Haber, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of CompCore Multimedia Inc.

"The MMX instruction set is extremely important to the success of our MPEG-2, Dolby AC-3 and SoftPEG software projects currently underway."

SoftPEG is a complete MPEG-1 software decoder application program, which runs real-time on Intel's Pentium processors under Windows 95. This software includes video and stereo audio decoding and an easy-to-use graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)

Computer display format that allows the user to select commands, call up files, start programs, and do other routine tasks by using a mouse to point to pictorial symbols (icons) or lists of menu choices on the screen as opposed to having to
.

This latest version of SoftPEG supports the most popular CD formats (Video CD 1.1/2.0, CD-I (Compact Disc-Interactive) A compact disc format developed by Philips and Sony that held text, audio and animated graphics. It required a CD-I player that contained its own operating system. , Karaoke, Sigma Designs) and display graphics accelerator chips/boards, which utilize Display Control Interface (DCI (Display Control Interface) An Intel/Microsoft programming interface for full-motion video and games in Windows. It allowed applications to take advantage of video accelerator features built into the display adapter. ) and Direct Draw graphics commands. SoftPEG can be packaged with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  hardware products for added value or bundled with MPEG CD video titles, which can then be played on a PC or other general-purpose computers.

Evaluation software for OEM customers is available on a 30-day trial basis from CompCore.
