Nicholas Nicholas, Russian grand duke Nicholas (Nikolai Nikolayevich) (nyĭkəlī` nyĭkəlī`əvĭch), 1856–1929, Russian grand duke and army officer; first cousin of Czar Alexander III and grandson of Czar at the National Eisteddfod eisteddfod (īstĕth`vəd, –vôd) [Welsh,=session], Welsh competitive festival. Contests traditionally are held in all the arts and crafts, with special emphasis on music and poetry. . Elsie Nicholas from Pontarddulais was awarded the Sir T H Parry Williams medal. She was described by Eisteddfod officials making the award on the stage yesterday as "a key figure in the community". Elsie has competed at the Urdd and National Eisteddfodau and has tutored numerous parties, individuals and actors to compete for over 60 years including many Welsh learners. She continues to teach the children of the Hendy Schools Adran and is a staunch member of the village Merched y Wawr Merched y Wawr (Welsh, Daughters of the dawn) is a national organisation for women in Wales. It is similar to the Women's Institute but its activities are conducted through the medium of Welsh. and has been secretary of the Myrddin Region of the Urdd for 40 years.
