Community must fight to save its store.

Byline: J WATSON Wat·son , James Dewey Born 1928.

American biologist who with Francis Crick proposed a spiral model, the double helix, for the molecular structure of DNA. He shared a 1962 Nobel Prize for advances in the study of genetics.

I READ with interest the Chronicle's recent story about hundreds of people signing a petition to keep the Marks & Spencer Simply Food store open in Whitley Bay Whitley Bay, town (1991 pop. 36,040), North Tyneside metropolitan district, NE England, on the North Sea. Formerly the urban district of Whitley and Monkseaton, Whitley Bay was chartered as a municipal borough in 1954. .

It would have an adverse effect on the community if it closed. Let us all hope the residents of Whitley Bay and the surrounding areas continue to support the store and persuade many of their friends and family to become regular customers. M&S has always been a responsible retailer and their food products are first class.

Good luck to Alan Moses, chairman of the Whitley Bay Chamber of Trade, in his efforts to stop the store being closed.
