WOMEN WALK THE MARATHON - The region's premier training program for marathon walkers, Women Walk the Marathon, will hold an open question and answer session from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday in the Springfield Public Library meeting room. The forum is free and open to the public. SATURDAY, FEB. 1 - South Coast Running Club presents a five-mile Prediction Run and three-mile walk beginning at 9 a.m. at Dawson's Sports Central in downtown Coos Bay. The entry fee includes an award and a homemade chili feed. Contact: Pete Dawson, (541) 267-6329.

SUNDAY, FEB. 9 - The seventh annual Truffle truffle (trŭf`əl) [Fr.], subterranean edible fungus that forms a mutually beneficial (symbiotic) relationship with the roots of certain trees and plants. The part of the fungus used as food is the ascoma, the fruiting body of the fungus.  Shuffle two-mile walk/run and four-mile run takes place at Alton Baker Park Alton Baker Park is located in Eugene, Oregon, United States, near Autzen Stadium. It features duck ponds, bicycle trails, and a dog park, and directly touches the Ferry Street Bridge.  at a new start time of 1:30 p.m. The kids fun run starts at 2:30 p.m. Every paid entrant receives a long-sleeve T-shirt and a truffle. Awards will be given in individual and team categories and there will be random prizes. Early registration through Feb. 1 is $18 for adults, $15 for students. The kids run is free. A late fee of $5 applies after Feb. 1. Proceeds benefit Bolden Options, a running and skill mentoring program for at-risk adolescent youth. Online registration is available at www.goodrace.com. In-person registration can be completed at Nike Eugene, Fenton & Lee and Committed Partners for Youth (1591 Willamette St.).

SATURDAY, FEB. 15 - The 26th annual Couples Classic starts and finishes at River Road park, 1400 Lake Dr. Start time is 9:30 a.m. The 5K course loops through residential streets. Runners and walkers can compete as two-person teams, or as individuals. Awards are based on combined times and age categories. Entry fee is $16 per runner with T-shirt by Feb. 11, or $8 without shirt through day of race. Online registration is available at www.goodrace.com.

SATURDAY, MARCH 1 - South Coast Running Club presents the Run of Two Cities, actually a 10K run and 5K run/walk, beginning at 9 a.m. at Mingus Park in Coos Bay. The event benefits Oregon Special Olympics and the entry fee is $5. Contact: Tim Wall, 269-5169.

SATURDAY, MARCH 15 - Sheldon High School's 26th annual "Run for the Shamrock" fund-raiser includes a kids mile at 9:10 a.m., 5,000-meter walk and 5,000-meter fun run at 9:30 a.m. and 10,000-meter race at 10 a.m., all at Alton Baker Park. There will be 14 age groups in five-year intervals. Entry fee is $13 with T-shirt, $7 without, through March 13. Registration takes place at Shamrock Flowers and Gifts in the Sheldon Plaza.
