Community Radio Leaders Gather for Thirtieth Annual Conference to Consider Issues and Challenges Affecting Noncommercial Radio; Convene Seventh Annual Youth in Radio Training Project; Honor Excellence in Programs.


WHAT:  The National Federation of Community Broadcasters (NFCB), a
30-year-old grassroots membership organization of community radio
stations around the country, convenes its thirtieth annual conference
in Baltimore this week where member stations will attend sessions for
training and explore issues that impact noncommercial radio like
emerging technologies, diversity, localism and media consolidation.

WHEN:  April 13-16, 2005

WHERE:  Baltimore, Maryland (Please call for more specifics)

HIGHLIGHTS:

-- NFCB, founded 30 years ago in 1975 to address the challenges
facing community, noncommercial radio, will use this 30th annual
conference to reconsider the state of Community Radio in today's media
environment. Community Radio stations will discuss the opportunities
and challenges facing stations in the United States such as media
consolidation, restrictive regulatory issues, funding challenges,
expanded channels to provide more public service, and LPFM.

-- Youth in Radio: The conference will also include the 7th
National Youth in Radio Training Project Conference where 200 young
(high school aged and a little older) radio producers and their adult
project directors will come together for two days of workshops,
listening sessions, intensives, and hands-on experience.

-- Golden Reel Awards: The Awards will honor the best programming
broadcast on non-commercial community and/or public radio stations in
the United States from November 1, 2003 -- July 30, 2004.

-- Center for Native American Public Radio (CNAPR): A national
leadership and service organization for Native American radio and
project of NFCB, launched in the Fall of 2004, will meet at the
conference for the first time and convene a meeting of Native American
public radio stations.

-- Many sessions addressing Community Radio issues.
