) today announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire 386-bed Saint Elizabeth Saint Elizabeth may refer to:

 Medical Center, the only hospital in Granite City, Illinois Granite City is a city in Madison County, Illinois, United States. The population was 31,301 at the 2000 census. Roughly 67,000 people live in the immediate Granite City area. Granite City is part of the Greater St. . Granite City Granite City, city (1990 pop. 32,862), Madison co., SW Ill., an industrial suburb of East St. Louis, on the Mississippi; inc. 1896. It has port and rail connections.  is located across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Missouri. Regulatory approvals have been received and the closing of the transaction is expected to be effective on January 1, 2002.

The facility, operated by the Sisters of Divine Providence, a Catholic order, will undergo a name change to 'Gateway Regional Medical Center' to reflect its secular status. The hospital provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient services outpatient services Hospital-based services Managed care Medical and other services provided, to a nonadmitted Pt, by a hospital or other qualified facility–eg, mental health clinic, rural health clinic, mobile X-ray unit, free-standing dialysis unit Examples , as well as physician clinics and other outpatient services in the rural markets it serves, including Edwardsville and Collinsville, Illinois.
