) announced today that it has commenced with a private offering of $250 million aggregate principal amount of senior subordinated notes due 2012. The senior subordinated notes are being offered in an unregistered offering pursuant to Rule 144A Rule 144A

A Securities & Exchange Commission rule modifying a two-year holding period requirement on privately placed securities to permit qualified institutional buyers to trade these positions among themselves.
 and Regulation S under the Securities Act of 1933. Community Health Systems intends to offer to exchange the unregistered notes for substantially identical registered senior subordinated notes.
