Communities offer Memorial Day events.


Byline: The Register-Guard

Many communities are holding Memorial Day events today to honor those who died serving their country. Events include:

American Legion American Legion, national association of male and female war veterans, founded (1919) in Paris. Membership is open to veterans of World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.  Post 40: 9 a.m. service at the Veterans Wall at Willamalane Park in Springfield.

Eugene Pioneer Cemetery: 11 a.m. performance by Shasta Middle School Band and Choir at Civil War Veterans' Plot, 980 E. 16th St.

Mount Vernon Mount Vernon, estate, United States
Mount Vernon, NE Va., overlooking the Potomac River near Alexandria, S of Washington, D.C.; home of George Washington from 1747 until his death in 1799.
 Cemetery: 11 a.m. ceremony provided by the Springfield U.S. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3965, 57th Street and Mount Vernon Road, Springfield.

Oak Hill Cemetery Oak Hill Cemetery is a twenty-two acre (9 ha) historic cemetery and botanical garden located in Georgetown, Washington, D.C..

Oak Hill began in 1848 as part of the rural cemetery movement, directly inspired by the success of Mount Auburn Cemetery, when William Wilson
: 10 a.m. commemorative service provided by U.S. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9448, 88558 Oak Hill Cemetery Road, Eugene.

Rest-Haven Memorial Park: 1 p.m. dedication ceremony, 3900 Willamette St., Eugene.

Rest Lawn Memorial Park: 10 a.m. commemorative service provided by Junction City Junction City, city (1990 pop. 20,604), seat of Geary co., NE Kans., at the confluence of the Republican and Smoky Hill rivers; inc. 1859. The rail, trade, and processing center of an agricultural and dairy area, it grew as the supply point for nearby Fort Riley,  American Legion Post 61, 94335 Territorial Highway, Junction City.

Mount Calvary Cemetery Calvary Cemetery is a fairly common name for a burial ground and may refer to:
  • Calvary Cemetery in Altoona, Pennsylvania
  • Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa
  • Calvary Cemetery in East Los Angeles, California
  • Calvary Cemetery in Evanston, Illinois
: 9 a.m. Memorial Day Mass, followed by flag ceremony, 220 Crest Drive, Eugene.

Eugene Masonic Cemetery: Noon today, taps played at the public square and walking tours, 25th Avenue and University Street, Eugene.
