Communications programme: report of the FEMNET online discussion forum on Internet governance, 8-26 August 2005/Programmes des communications: rapport du forum de discussion en ligne de FEMNET Sur la Gouvernance de l'Internet, 8-26 aout 2005.


From 8-26 August 2005, the African Women's Development and Communication Network (FEMNET) hosted an online discussion forum on Internet Governance entitled "Tunis and Beyond: Issues for Africa and African Women on Internet Governance". The goal of the online discussion forum was to facilitate exchange and discussion on Internet governance by African women and African civil society. The discussion forum was in preparation for the World Summit on the Information Society The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) was a pair of United Nations-sponsored conferences about information, communication and, in broad terms, the information society that took place in 2003 in Geneva and in 2005 in Tunis.  (WSIS WSIS World Summit on the Information Society

FEMNET's online discussion forum was meant to integrate African women's concerns on Internet governance within the WSIS Gender Caucus (GC) position paper on Internet governance. The online discussion forum specifically set out to examine the issues and recommendations of the Working Group on Internet Governance The Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG) was a United Nations multistakeholder Working group set up after the 2003 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) first phase Summit in Geneva to agree on the future of Internet governance.  (WGIG) report from an African gender perspective.

 sur la Societe de l'Information qui s'est tenue du 19 au 30 septembre a Geneve, Suisse. Le forum de discussion en ligne de FFMNET visait a integrer les preoccupations des femmes africaines sur la gouvernance de l'Internet au sein du document contenant la position du Caucus du Genre (CG) du SMSI sur la gouvernance de l'Interner. Le forum de discussion en ligne avait pour objectif specifique d'examiner les questions et les recommandations contenues dans Je rapport du Groupe de Travail sur la Gouvernance de l'Internet (GIGI) sous l'angle du genre en Afrique.
