ZyXEL Communications Inc. today announced the IES-1000, the newest product in its MxU in-building product line, has received The Editor's Choice Award from Communications News (http://comnews.com).

The editors of Communications News, a leading news publication for telecommunications, data communications and network managers, viewed and evaluated the IES-1000 at Supercomm 2002 in Atlanta and chose the IES-1000 to receive one of only five Editor's Choice Awards given at the show.

The IES-1000 is a Multi Tenant Unit/Multi Hospitality Unit/Multi Dwelling Unit (MxU) product that enables quality high-speed Internet access integration to building service providers, property owners and service providers. Its innovative design allows the use of two hot swappable 8-port ADSL modules, two 8-port G.shdsl modules, or a combination of both an 8-port ADSL and an 8-port G.shdsl module for multiservice applications.

The IES-1000 can provide access to distances from 18,000-22,000 feet at speeds of 8Mbps downstream and 800 Kbps upstream over its ADSL module, and 2.3 Mbps symmetrically over its G.shdsl module.

The VLAN feature of the IES-1000 offers the benefits of both security and performance, while its multicasting design improves bandwidth utilization for bandwidth consuming applications such as video-on-demand. Additionally the number of IES-1000 devices can be increased on a network as the number of subscribers is increased.

The IES-1000 is designed for stackable applications and can be installed at a low initial investment with an 8-port module. The inclusion of the optional NetaVista management system allows an administrator to easily monitor configuration control, system status, performance index, and alarm trap through a comprehensive service results report.

In addition to remote management capabilities, a console port can be used for local management. The IES-1000 is compatible with third-party billing solutions, offering providers the ability to charge users per usage time.
