The Fund, Asia's largest specialist fund investing exclusively in unquoted media and communications companies, is based in Singapore and managed by a dedicated partnership including specialists drawn from these industries in the United States and Asia.

). It follows Baring Communications Equity (Europe) Limited, which was launched in April of 1994 with a total capitalization of ECU 67.5 million (approximately US$ 84 million).

BCEA has drawn investors from leading financial institutions and media companies as well as private individuals in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, South East Asia and Japan. Among the lead investors in BCEA are Chicago-based Tribune Company, New York-based McGraw Hill Companies and Boston-based BancBoston. The Fund is also supported by ING Group and CEA. In addition, the Fund received substantial backing from Singapore-based investors.

BCEA has to date completed two investments in the book publishing and the video rental businesses in Singapore and Thailand respectively. Several additional investments in media and telecommunications across the Asia-Pacific region are currently under consideration.
