Communicant Receives European Union Approval for Government Subsidies of $363 Million; Foundry Reaches Next Milestone in Funding Process.

The subsidies are commensurate with the jobs Communicant will create at its headquarters and manufacturing site in Frankfurt (Oder).

The EU approval also includes federal and state government guarantees on commercial loans. Communicant has already secured private equity of $325 million (April 8, 2002) in addition to the $363 million in government grants announced today. When a firm raises money for working capital or capital expenditures by selling bonds, bills, or notes to individual and/or institutional investors. In return for lending the money, the individuals or institutions become creditors and receive a promise to repay
 by a major banking consortium led by Commerzbank AG and the Gulf International Bank (GIB See NIST binary. ) for a $650 million debt facility. The total financing of $1.3 billion will complete the funding for Communicant's foundry.
