Commtouch Reports September Spam Trends: The Return of China, Phishing.

 the dubious distinction of hosting the majority of websites referenced in spam email (67.01%), an increase from the previous month in which hosting facilities in South Korea, at 47%, held the top spot on this list.

Of global spam during September, 8.87% was CAN-SPAM (Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography And Marketing Act of 2003) A U.S. statute effective January 1, 2004 that allows spammers to be fined up to $6 million.  compliant, constituting a slight drop in compliance compared to the previous month of 9.09%

Commtouch reported that during the month of September, 11% less spam was sent from the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  than during the previous month. Nonetheless, the United States retained its leadership role in September, with 34.70% of spam email originating from U.S. sources.

For PayPal "phishers": US (74.61%), UK (10.60%), Canada (2.77%), South Korea (2.64%), Italy (1.33%), Colombia (1.33%), Venezuela (1.32%), Taiwan (1.32%)

Origin of spam: U.S still leads the world

In the month of September, Commtouch detected that spam was sent from 166 countries. The volume of spam email originated primarily from sources in the following countries:

       3.  China                        13.25%
       4.  Japan                        4.15%
       5.  Canada                       2.91%
       6.  Brazil                       2.77%
       7.  Taiwan                       1.95%
       8.  Spain                        1.96%

      10.  France                       1.65%



China is the main host of spammer websites
