John Faverman, technical services manager at Commonwealth, "With the fault-tolerant NEC server, there is no interruption in processing and no loss of performance which is key to providing continuous Web site access to our brokerage customers and reps."

Fault-tolerant technology means that redundant components, such as multiple processors and hard drives, perform the same functions to back up one another. The result is no disruption in performance and data integrity in the event of a system failure. This high availability Also called "RAS" (reliability, availability, serviceability) or "fault resilient," it refers to a multiprocessing system that can quickly recover from a failure. There may be a minute or two of downtime while one system switches over to another, but processing will continue.  for Intel-based servers running Windows translates into less downtime compared to clustering.

Faverman added, ""Commonwealth has a long-time relationship with CRI who was instrumental in our purchased of the NEC server."

According to CRI president, John Palmieri, "We're pleased to bring continuous availability to Commonwealth through NEC's fault tolerant The ability to continue non-stop when a hardware failure occurs. A fault-tolerant system is designed from the ground up for reliability by building multiples of all critical components, such as CPUs, memories, disks and power supplies into the same computer.  products, which now offer this technology to any size enterprise at a low-end cost."
