Common Sense Media to Honor Newton Minow at Third Annual Awards Program at the Kennedy Center; National Organization Will Honor Individuals for Their Visionary Leadership and Outstanding Contributions to Kids and Families.WASHINGTON -- Common Sense Media's third annual awards program, held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the name by which it is known, (or, as named on the building itself, the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts but, locally called the The Kennedy Center on Wednesday, September 6th, will recognize outstanding organizations and individuals who have made extraordinary contributions toward enriching and improving the media landscape for children. Newton Minow, the John F. Kennedy-appointed FCC (1) (Federal Communications Commission, Washington, DC, www.fcc.gov) The U.S. government agency that regulates interstate and international communications including wire, cable, radio, TV and satellite. The FCC was created under the U.S. chair who gave the legendary 'Vast Wasteland' speech 45 years ago, will receive the 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award. It began when the expanding national radio network NBC split into the separate Red and Blue networks in 1928. 7/WJLA TV's News at 5 p.m. and co-host of Capital Sunday, will emcee the event. The evening will commence at 6:00 PM with a reception on Terrace Level of the Kennedy Center, followed by the 7:30 awards ceremony in the Terrace Theater.
